PostSubject: EV's Training Guide   Sat Jul 25, 2009 4:50 am

EV's (Effort Value) Training Guide.

To start with, Natures. Introduced in 3rd Gen, a Pokemon can
have one of twenty-five natures. Natures boost one stat and hinder another by
ten percent each, though five boost and hinder the same stat, having no effect
to the Pokemon's stats at all.

Practically, one must aim for a nature that benefits a stat the Pokemon will
most likely use, and hinder one that the Pokemon wouldn't. For a Physical
Sweeper, one should either go for Adamant (boosting Attack, the stat a Physical
Sweeper abuses, and decreasing Special Attack, one that it never uses) or Jolly
(boosting Speed instead, because with the fourth generation, speed has become
more important). Likewise for a Special Sweeper, one should go for either
Modest (boosting Sp. Attack and decreasing Attack) or Timid (boosting Speed and
decresing Attack).

Of course, there are limits. A Pokemon can only gain a total of 510 EVs, and 255 EVs per stat.
That means the maximum stat bonus EVs can give per stat is 63, should you give
252 EVs to one stat. 252 is the accepted bonus, as it is the highest number less than
255 divisible by 4. With that said, 252/252/6 is pretty much the most basic EV spread
for a Pokemon, adding 63 points to two stats and 1 point to one stat.

Key:
+ stat growth increases 10%
- stat growth decreases 10%
x normal stat growth

Nature ATK SP ATK DEF SP DEF SPD

Now, each pokemon can only have

The following items will add one extra stat point on a level up.

Power Bracer - Attack
Power Belt - Defense
Power Anklet - Speed
Power Lens - Sp. Atk
Power Band - Sp. Def
Power Weight - HP

The following items are Vitamins, they help towards ceratin EV stats

Vitamins
Protein: Adds 10 EVs to Attack.
Iron: Adds 10 EVs to Defence.
Calcium: Adds 10 EVs to Special Attack.
Zinc: Adds 10 EVs to Special Defence.
Carbos: Adds 10 EVs to Speed.
HP UP: Adds 10 EVs to HP.

However, vitamins are only effective until you hit 100 EV's in the stat. So, if you plan on using at least 100 EV's to a stat, use these first and it will speed things up a bit. Vitamins cost 9800 poke whatevers or 1 BP.

The following includes the pokemon from pokemon Diamond + Pearl that will increase a certain EV, where to find them, and how much they give per battle.
Please note that if you are going to EV train, 510 is the most you can increase the EV's by, so how would you colculate all of that...Simple.
Get a calculator!

HP:
Route 201
Pokemon: Bidoof (1)
Pretty basic, and it's pretty low level too.

Route 222
Pokemon: Gastrodon (2)
It gets the job done, but the pokes are a little higher level, so that could be
a good or bad thing.

Attack:

Route 202
Pokemon: Shinx (1)
The basic method of EVing this stat, but not the quickest.

Lake Valor
Pokemon: Seaking (2), Gyarados (2)
Much better than the Shinx method, but you need an Super Rod which you get after
beating the game in the Battle Zone.

Defensee:

Oreburgh Mine
Pokemon: Geodude (1), Onix (1)
The best basic EV pokemon,

Iron Island Cave
Pokemon: Graveler (2), Onix (1) Steelix (2)
Pretty good, the best place I could find.

SP. ATK.

Old Chateau in Eterna Forest
Pokemon: Gastly (1), Haunter (2), Gengar (3)
Possibly the best option if you have a GBA Pokemon game in you GBA slot, if you
don't only Gastly will appear, Gengar only appears in the room with eyes.

Resort Areas Pond
Pokemon: Golduck (2)
Pretty much the best option if you don't hav a GBA game.

SP. DEF.

Route 223
Pokemon: Tentacruel (2), Mantyke (1)
The earliest and best option I could find, it work pretty well.

Speed:
Victory Road Ponds
Pokemon: Golbat (2)
I think these are the only pokemon tha appear when surfing on the ponds here,
pretty good for EV training if you pokemon is in the high-30s to high-40s and
above.

The following includes the pokemon from pokemon Ruby + Saphire that will increase a certain EV, where to find them, and how much they give per battle.

HP - Whismur - Cave on Route 106
Attack - Carvanha - Route 119 (Super Rod)
Defense - Sandshrew/Skarmory - Route 113
Special Attack - Spinda - Route 113
Special Defense - Tentacool - Almost Anywhere you can surf
Speed - Zubat/Golbat - Cave of Origin
